The ASC Stammer Awareness Toolkit is an interactive e-learning resource for schools in the UK, which has been created to support education staff in creating a supportive and inclusive environment for pupils who stammer. It comprises four training modules which include interactive materials and strategies, case studies provided by young people who stammer, and downloadable resources.
The Community of Practice is an interactive area of the Stammer Awareness Toolkit. Here, subscribers can create a member profile which allows them to connect and collaborate with colleagues across the UK to access peer support, swap resources and share experiences of putting stammering awareness into practice in their schools.
An estimated 40-60% of children experience teasing and bullying about their stammer. Pulling together the latest research, strategies and resources, the Stammer Awareness Toolkit aims to support and empower schools to bring about positive change to the experiences of these children.
A subscription to the Toolkit is fully funded by ASC for the first 12 months, and there is no limit on the number of staff who can join per school. Eventually, schools in which staff members have completed the Toolkit will be able to apply for ‘Stammer Aware’ accreditation.
Although the Toolkit is aimed at education professionals, we welcome sign-ups from Speech and Language Therapists who are interested in viewing its content and signposting this resources to the schools they work with.
