The ASC Stammer Awareness Toolkit is an interactive e-learning resource for schools located within the UK, which has been developed to support education staff in creating a supportive and inclusive environment for pupils who stammer. It comprises four training modules which include interactive materials and strategies, case studies provided by young people who stammer, and downloadable resources.
As part of their subscription to the Toolkit, subscribers automatically get access to the ‘Community of Practice’ - a closed interactive space. Here, subscribers can create a member profile, which allows them to connect and collaborate with colleagues across the UK to access peer support, swap resources and share experiences of putting stammering awareness into practice in their schools.
An estimated 40-60% of children experience teasing and bullying about their stammer. Through the information, strategies and resources available in the Stammer Awareness Toolkit, we are aiming to support and empower schools to bring about positive change to the experiences of these children.
A subscription to the Toolkit is fully-funded by ASC for the first 12 months, and there is no limit on the number of staff who can join per school. We’ve designed the Toolkit in a way that takes into account the limited time education professionals have to spare. All content can be completed online and at your own pace – your course progress will be saved whenever you log out of your account.
Eventually, schools in which staff members have completed the Toolkit will be able to apply for ‘Stammer Aware’ accreditation.
