The Stammer Awareness Toolkit

Are you looking to enhance your understanding of stammering, and of how best to support students who stammer? Do you want to feel empowered in making positive changes to your school environment to promote stammering awareness and inclusivity? The ASC Stammer Awareness Toolkit is an interactive e-learning resource for schools throughout the UK, which has been created to support education staff in creating a supportive and inclusive environment for students who stammer.

We’ve designed the Toolkit in a way that takes into account the limited time education professionals have to spare. All content can be completed online and at your own pace – your course progress will be saved whenever you log out of your account.

Eventually, schools in which staff members have completed the Toolkit will be able to apply for ‘Stammer Aware’ accreditation.

Join the Community of Practice

As part of your subscription to the Stammer Awareness Toolkit, you automatically gain access to the Community of Practice. You simply need to create your member profile.

This closed community offers the chance to connect with other educators in your local area and across the UK, share examples of good practice and support one another through online forums. You also have the opportunity to share news, resources and case studies with your peers, as well as learn about the work going on in other settings and at ASC.

Resources to share

If you are looking for resources to share with students who stammer, or to include within stammering awareness initiatives in your education setting, our resources provide engaging, inspiring and thought-provoking content.

There’s lots to browse through and choose from, including book recommendations, short video-clips, and posters to download for use in our school.

We also run a Stambassador Network, made up of professionals with lived experience of stammering. For pupils who feel that stammering limits their aspirations, we encourage you to share our Stambassador video interviews.  In these videos, Stambassadors share their experience of navigating their own career with a stammer - providing inspiration and real-life examples of how stammering does not define you. These are one of our most popular resources, so check them out!
