Yes! Parents and Caregivers often ask us how they can become involved with ASC and we are very grateful to those who volunteer their time to help us support the young people we work with.
If you have lived experience of stammering, you might consider volunteering for our existing programmes:
- Become a Stambassador - our Stambassadors Network is made up of inspiring professionals who have experience of stammering. They raise awareness of what it’s really like to stammer, helping to challenge stigmas and break down barriers in the workplace. They also give their time to support young people directly through our activities and events. Get in touch to find out more about becoming a Stambassador.
-
Become a Mentor - No one should feel like their stammer stands in their way of their future career. But we know that too many young people in this situation hold back from pursuing the jobs they dream of. That’s why we created our one-of-a-kind mentoring scheme.
Run in partnership with Sam Simpson of Redefining Stammering, we match young people with mentors from their chosen fields who also stammer. People who’ve been there and who really get it. Together, they explore real-world strategies, build confidence and develop practical tools for navigating the world of work.
The Mentoring Scheme runs each year, so if you're interested in providing 6-months of 1:1 career mentoring to a young person (aged 18-25), get in touch.
The ASC Community is made up of individuals who want to support children and young people who stammer, whether they have lived experience of stammering or not. If you do not stammer but would like to get involved with us, we'd love to hear from you and encourage you to take a look at these link:
